Bio

I am a Ph.D. candidate in MSU’s Agricultural, Rural, and Environmental history Node of Excellence and work as the editorial assistant for the journal Environmental History. I am interested in the study of labor, the environment, and tourism. My dissertation examines the creation and popularization of the Village of Pinehurst’s golf resort in the North Carolina Sandhills from 1895-1970. This work explores how ownership interacted with local labor to reimagine the Sandhills’s environmental potential to support modern golf courses. It further explains the combination of material and cultural changes necessary to create a company town  and tourist based economy centered around outdoor recreation.
