Longtime Professor Emeritus C. James Haug has Died

Teacher of countless students, Professor C. James Haug has died.

Professor Haug first came to Mississippi State in 1976 from the University of Kansas where he received his PhD. At Mississippi State he taught the history of science and technology, quantitative methods and modern French history. Among his book-length publications were The Mechanical Feature:  100 Years of Engineering at Mississippi State (Jackson and London:  University Press of Mississippi, 1992); The Strategic Defense Initiative:  An International Perspective (New York: Columbia University Press, 1987); and Leisure and Urbanism in Nineteenth Century Nice (Lawrence:  University Press of Kansas, 1982). Haug also wrote several dozen scholarly articles and opinion pieces. He won nearly 20 different fellowships and grants, including two awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

He retired in 2004 and until his death lived in Starkville.
